Eye Makeup Removal 101

Eye Makeup Removal 101

Nothing is worse than trying to remove your eye maeup and ending up with burning, itching eyes after using the wrong product. Or even worse, using a product that claims to cut through waterproof makeup, and you're left with lashes that still have mascara on them. Where is the medium? Aside from products, there's also a few misconceptions when it comes to removing eye maleup, we'regiving you the top tips and tricks below and what we've learned after years of burning eyes.

"Sensitive" Doesn't Mean "Safe for Eyes"

Though many face washes and makeup melters stress their ease on sensitive skin, that doesn't mean that they're okay to use on eyes. Thpugh they may not explicitly state that they're unsafe for eyes, if they don't claim to be "safe for eye use" use caution when applying. Try looking up reviews and seeing what others say about eye use before you end up in a world of pain.

Gel Formulations Burn

We can't tell you how many times using a "safe for eyes" gel makeup remover on the eyes has resulted in an emergency eye wash shower. Because of the way that gel makeup melters work, they easily work their way into closed eyes, and the reaction turning the gel into it's creamy counterpart once wet is extremely painful in eyes. Even if it says eye safe, use caution, or avoid using it on your eyes.

Try Removing Eye Makeup First

It's an obvious one, but taking off as much of your eye makeup as you can before your real melt off cleanse will guarantee you're getting everything off. Try using a micellar water to loosen your mascara and remove most of your eyeshadow before going back in with a waterproof removing wash. Try the NYX Micellar Water for an alternative to Garnier.

Try a Cleansing Balm

In our tests, the best waterproof mascara removers where balmy consistencies. The Body Shoppe's Chamomile Sumptuous Cleansing Balm is our number one for its ease and nurturing properties for skin.  The Ole Henriksen Melting Cleanser is another alternative that is a Sephora exclusive. With a soft consistency and Vitamin C heavy ingredients that are also great for skin, this balm melts away eye makeup completely as fast as possible.
