May Haul Review: What We Did & Didn't Love
Each month, we post our roundup of items that we've newly purchased, whether it be skincare, makeup, haircare, or inner gut health products. Recently, we used an Instagram poll (our favorite way to get in touch with you guys) and our readers wanted to hear a more in-depth review of last month's haul recap. Today, we're reviewing everything we bought in the month of May, and if you missed that haul you can catch it in our Haul Highlight on Instagram.
Pai Hydrating Day Cream
While looking for a day cream that would be light and hydrating, we came across this lovely Pai Avocado & Jojoba number that is exactly what we were looking for. We love to apply this 5-10 minutes before we plan on doing our makeup, and by the time we're ready to go we have soft, supple skin that feels like hydrated skin, not like an oily lotion covering film on our face. This cream helps to fight dry patches wile still being natural, and smells lovely. It can even be used as a night cream during travel, we love it!
Juice Beauty Green Apple Body Lotion
For $20, this body lotion gets the job done, and smells awesome as well. The lotion comes in a squeeze tube, and we love how quickly this formula dries. We apply this right after the shower and after we do our skincare routine, we're able to put on clothes right away without that uncomfortable sticky feeling. Pesky dry patches have gone away, and although it doesn't give skin that super shiny, glowy look, that can be easily remedied by following up with a body oil.
Juice Beauty Sheer SPF 30
While we were on the hunt for the perfect SPF that wouldn't dry out skin, or cause a white cast, we decided to try this Juice Beauty Sheer moisturizer with an SPF of 30. Don't be fooled, this is definitely an SPF, it comes out of the tube pure white and takes a little rubbing in to get rid of the white cast, but it does leave skin moisturized and soft if you were in a pinch and needed both. We wore this on a few days in the sun and didn't get sunburned once (even when our shoulders did!).
ACURE Organics Brilliantly Bright Scrub
Check out our full review of this product in our last blog post, but a little spoiler- we absolutely LOVED it and it's only $7.
Jillian Dempsey Lid Tint in Lilac
When we ordered this creamy lid tint in the shade "Lilac" we were expecting a cool-toned light purple shade, but Jillian Dempsey's popular shadow is actually a creamy pink shade, a perfect neutral between warm and cool. We found the best way to apply this shadow was over a neutral powder as it held off from creasing for the longest period of time this way, and it was easier to layer the color and have it show. We do love this shadow, but unless you are wearing it for a very short amount of time (1-2) hours, it will crease on the lids and essentially disappear. We do like the shadow, but we don't believe it's worth $30 for one shade.
Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint
Surprisingly, some of us had never tried the famous Glossier Skin Tint, and we had to put an end to that. The first impression of this extremely lightweight base was the amazing smoothing effect it had the skin, plus how much it reduced redness with such light amount of coverage. Add a bit of concealer on any redness and you have a skin-like perfect complexion.
Neal's Yard Wild Rose Beauty Balm
This product is one of our new HG must-have items in our skincare/makeup collection. A beauty balm is a great multi=purpose product that can be used for almost anything. We love to use this herbal scented beauty balm as a lip balm, and applied onto dry patches the night before big events to ensure they don't pop through. It can also be used as a balm cleanser, an overnight mask, moisturizer and extra dewy highlighter.
W3LL People Nudist Lip Butter
We are also loving this lip butter for obvious reasons: it's a nude lip butter that not only adds a kiss of color but moisturizes lips and never makes them peel or feel dry once it's worn off. It also tastes delicious and has a universally flattering rose shade.
Love Beauty & Planet, Sugar & Rose Creamy Body Scrub
After hearing so many good things about this line, we decided to give one of the body scrubs a try and our reviews are, well, mixed. While we love the packaging and the smooth, soft result that this scrub gives, we aren't a fan of the tub it comes in, it's not practical for something you're using in the shower, and the scent is a bit too faux for us. The extremely gritty formula can also become a bit painful on sensitive or already softened skin.
