Clean Beauty at Sephora- but is it really?

For those of us who have been sparingly browsing Sephora for the few clean beauty brands they carry, it was probably exciting to see that a few days ago, they added a "Clean Beauty at Sephora" section, coupled with a Clean Beauty stamp on all products that are clean beauty. It was a huge victory for the clean beauty market, except for one thing- while all of the items in the clan beauty category are, technically, clean, not all of them are ethically clean. A few of the brands listed do, in fact, test on animals, so today we're going to be showing you some of the "clean beauty" picks to stay away from, plus alternatives that are also sold at Sephora. 

Caudalie

One of the brands listed under the Clean Skincare Section of Sephora is Caudalie, a luxury French brand focused on the power of natural skincare. Although they claim on their website to "never test on animals" they do sell in mainland China, and therefore, their products are tested on animals where the law allows. A great alternative to a luxury and sensitive skincare line like Caudalie is Tata Harper. Tata Harper products are formulated with your skin's basic needs in mind. Regenerating, replenishing and cleansing without stripping or using harmful chemicals. With a similar price tag to Caudalie, Tata Harper products are expensive but truly worth the money. 

Origins 

Origins is another brand whose products are formulated without any of the traditional "bad" ingredients found in everyday makeup, however, they also test on animals where the law permits, including China. If you love the Origins Babyskin mask, or their mushroom themed line, try Youth To The People's iconic Superfood Skin Reset mask, a cult classic in the clean beauty community, as well as their new adaptogen moisturizer.

Biossance

Completely based around replenishing your skin's squalane levels, Biossance creates moisturizers, serums, oils, and even an SPF (that we're dying to try.) Their price point isn't extremely expensive, and Sephora offers so many different trial sets that are full of biossance goodies.

ILIA

It's no secret that here at Edith & June, we love ILIA's products, especially their mascaras. One of the best clean beauty mascara's on the market is the Limitless Lash Mascara that lifts, separates and volumizes lashes with a formula that's ophthalmologist-approved for girls with sensitive eyes. Kopari

Another ingredient-based brand, Kopari focuses solely on the hydrating power of coconut oil, from an amazing lip balm to moisturizers, makeup removers, oils, and lotions. Kopari also comes at a great price point for value, especially within such a natural, clean boundary.
