All About Natural Toothpaste And Why It's So Important

Brushing our teeth is something so basic that we do everyday, twice a day, so it’s important that we’re using all of the right products for ourselves. Commercial toothpastes are riddled with ingredients that create that “paste” texture, a marketing gag on the product’s name. Regular Toothpaste also contains chemicals used for artificial colors, sweeteners, and to help the foaming action that we’re all used to. The foaming angents are also known as SLS, and they also break down taste buds on your tongue: the reason why everything tastes so bad after you brush your teeth. Luckily, natural toothpastes have risen in popularity lately, so most are available in your local grocery store or Target, but it’s hard to choose which one is right for you! We’ve tried a few over the last month and we’re here to give you all of the pros and cons of each one.

David’s Natural Toothpaste

This toothpaste is hands down our absolute favorite of all the natural toothpastes we’ve tried. Flavored with peppermint essential oils, this toothpaste doesn’t taste gross, and has a good texture for brushing with. The best part about this paste is that not only is the box recyclable, but so is the metal tube it comes in. Each tube also comes with a metal squeezing tool so that you really get each and every last drop out. David’s is SLS free like most natural toothpastes, but is also fluoride, artificial flavor and color free, cruelty free and vegan, made in the USA and is made with renewable energy. David’s, we love you!

Tom’s Whole Care with Fluoride

For those who still want fluoride in their toothpaste, Tom’s includes natural fluoride in their whole care formula. While the flavor of this toothpaste isn’t as nice as David’s, it’s still not bad and flavored with natural peppermint flavors. The texture is slightly more watery than David’s toothpaste, but is just as effective and leaves teeth feeling clean. Tom’s is also aluminum-free, artificial color-free, artificial flavor-free, vegan, and phthalate-free.

Dr. Bronner’s Cinnamon Toothpaste

For those who hate minty flavors, this light cinnamon flavor is deliciously refreshing! In true Dr.Bronner fashion, this toothpaste is inexpensive and free of all that yucky stuff, plus another fluoride free option. This tube is also recyclable and can be found at your local Target.
