Setting Your Makeup Up For Success

Being prepared is 90% of the success, and your makeup is no different! Applying makeup to skin that isn’t prepped for application usually leaves us unhappy with our makeup looks, from looking to dry to too oily, or being hard to blend. We’re going through our favorite products to help prep skin for makeup application so that you’ll always love how it looks.

Start With an Exfoliating Mask

Using an overnight exfoliating treatment is the key to giving your skin an extra glowy boost with minimal effort. We love using the Goldfaden M.D. Wake Up Call Overnight Facial Treatment for a treatment that’s gentle on skin and also glow boosting. Apply this before bed in place of a moisturizer and let it sink in overnight. In the morning, cleanse your face with our next product and then apply the rest of your skincare routine.

Cleanse

It might surprise you to find out how dirty your skin actually is in the morning due to the leftover dirt and oils on your pillowcases. Cleansing your skin in the morning is the most important step to having your makeup apply effortlessly and look good every day. We love using a hydrating cleanser like the Osea Ocean Cleansing Milk that softens the skin without leaving it too oily. If you have oily skin, using a balancing cleanser like this one will also set up your skin for makeup.

Keep The Hydration Up

After cleansing, keep up the hydration and prep for moisturizer with a Hydrosol or a toner. We love the Indie Lee COQ-10 Toner for all skin types and it’s prepping power for the rest of your skincare routine or as a set for your makeup. This toner includes Chamomile, Sage and Aloe to help calm and hydrate, and an alcohol-free formula will never dry skin.

Moisturize

Lock all of that moisture in with a moisturizer that will help to fill in fine lines, ours being the Therapi Honey Skincare Rose Otto Ultra Radiance Cream. This moisturizer will give your skin a little boost of radiance while helping to stimulate collagen and elasticity over time.

SPF

The final step to prep is applying an SPF under your foundation, and if you’re someone who wants a formula that you can use on any part of your body, Love Sun Body is a great mineral sunscreen. It comes in two sizes, small and large, and never leaves a white cast under makeup. It also comes in an unscented version so you don’t have to worry about an offensive smell around the face.
