Prim Botanicals Hair + Body Oil

This month's Art of Organics clean beauty box was focused around one brand in particular and featured two full sized items that have a bit of a cult following in the clean beauty world. Prim Botanicals body oil and hair oil are two items that we had heard a lot about but never got the chance to experiment with here at Edith & June. After receiving our Art of Organics box, we were curious to see how these oils would work for different hair types and skin types and if the hype surrounding them was worth it.

First Impressions

Our first impression of these products was that the packaging looks and feels like two quality products. They come in glass bottles with brass tops, and each has a spray nozzle, with a high-quality display sticker of the brand's logo and the name of the product. The unicarton they come in also has a beautiful display of the brand's hand-drawn tropical pattern along with how to use the product, ingredients and a bit about each one.

The Body Oil

The key to using any body oil is to combine it with your favorite moisturizer, and right now our favorite is Juice Beauty's Green Apple Firming Moisturizer. We put a dime-quarter size amount in our palm and then add our favorite body oil which adds a little thickness to the oil for easier spreadability. When we went to add this body oil into our palm, the first thing we noticed was that it didn't spray out in a fine mist like we expected, but more like a single line squirt of product. After one pump, the pump completely jammed, and the oil started to drip down the front of the nozzle in a way that was impossible to scoop up and use. For a product that is $54 for 4oz, the oil that we are trying to use is going to waste by dripping down into the top of the bottle. It was essentially impossible to get more product out through the spray nozzle, but what we were able to get out seemed to be a really great product. The smell is absolutely phenomenal and remnant of herbs and the outdoors due to the Rosemary and Bergamot oil. It also added a little something to our moisturizer that really made our skin glow and left us without a sticky feeling on our legs.

The Hair Oil

Unlike the Body Oil, the nozzle on this container doesn't seem to get jammed, however, you only need one pump anyway. A little bit of this oil goes an extremely long way which is great for a $45 hair oil. The scent of this oil is similar to the body oil as they contain a lot of the same ingredients. This one contains Lavender Oil as well as Vanilla Oil, so it has a bit of a sweeter scent and less herbal. We used this as a last styling step after straightening and curling our hair, but this can also be used as a hair mask for those with extremely dry or damaged hair and a heat protectant when applied to towel dried hair. This hair oil would also be great for girls with extremely curly hair to apply before hair is dried. This oil left our hair silky soft without being overly oily and helped seal up split ends. We concentrated this in the ends of our hair and then put a bit of the excess closer to the top to keep down frizz and add shine to any areas where hair looks dull or dry.

All in all, we absolutely loved this hair oil and for the price, it's a great multi-tasking product that we would definitely recommend if you're looking for a new hair oil or a heat protectant. For the body oil, we looked on the Prim Botanicals website and found that none of the reviewers complained of the nozzle jamming. For us, we loved the product, but the faulty packaging would definitely hinder us from purchasing it again. If they released this product with better packaging, we'd definitely be on top of it!
